Investor and “Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary has launched efforts to purchase TikTok’s U.S. operations as the platform faces the looming threat of being banned by January 19.

O’Leary has partnered with Frank McCourt, the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, to form a coalition known as People’s Bid for TikTok. Their goal is to acquire the operations of TikTok in the U.S. and ensure that the platform continues to serve its approximately 170 million American users.

In a recent statement, O’Leary emphasized the need for support from President-elect Donald Trump to finalize this acquisition. He believes that Trump’s involvement will be crucial to streamline the process and successfully secure the deal.

As tensions rise over TikTok’s potential shutdown, O’Leary’s initiative presents a possible resolution to keep the platform operational in the United States, amid ongoing national security concerns.
