Travis Scott, SZA, and Future are facing a copyright lawsuit, with allegations that they copied significant elements of lyrics from an earlier song.
According to Billboard, the complaint was filed by artist Victory Boyd, a singer signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. Boyd claims that the artists copied lyrics and other elements from her 2019 track “Like The Way It Sounds” and incorporated them into their own music and videos. She shared her song initially with rapper Ye, who is believed to have shared it with other artists as well.
Boyd’s lawyer states:
“Scott, SZA, Future, and all the defendants intentionally copied the plaintiff’s original work and commercially released these musical works in the marketplace.”
If found guilty, the defendants could face hefty financial compensation to Boyd or even be required to share the earnings from the works they allegedly copied.
