Nine-year-old King John Mseke, son of Tanzanian hip-hop star Joh Makini, has arrived at the prestigious Manchester City Academy in Manchester, England, to undergo specialized football training.
This exciting opportunity is the culmination of years of dedicated effort by Joh Makini to nurture his son’s talent. “This is a long story; these are things we’ve been working on for years to ensure our child’s talent is recognized,” Joh Makini shared. “King began serious training when he was four or five years old. After realizing his talent, I knew I had to be fully committed. I didn’t want to take it lightly at all.”
King John Mseke, a fifth-grade student, departed Tanzania for the UK on Friday, December 13, 2024. He will spend two weeks at Manchester City receiving top-level coaching. Joh Makini emphasized the significance of this invitation-only opportunity, explaining that it’s a result of the child’s hard work and natural ability. “These training sessions are by invitation only, based on the child’s efforts and capabilities.”
The training program at Manchester City is comprehensive and includes detailed assessments. “After the training, they prepare a report on their observations of the child and also advise on areas to work on. You know, they are very advanced; they have their own evaluation methods. The child is assessed in every aspect. They can tell you everything about the child’s shot—its weight, their running style—everything is analyzed professionally,” Joh Makini explained. He believes this trip will open many doors for his son’s future. “I believe this journey will open many doors for this child.”
