The number of fatalities from the ongoing wildfires in various neighborhoods and areas in Los Angeles, USA, has now risen to 25. The alarming increase in deaths was reported early this morning, Wednesday, January 15, 2025, by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Los Angeles County. Officials have indicated that the death toll may continue to climb, as over 13 individuals are still unaccounted for.

According to CNN, Brice Bennet, Deputy Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, shared the update with the public via social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He announced that areas surrounding the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Mountains are being designated with red flags, signaling that these regions are at high risk of being impacted by the fires.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning of potential hazardous conditions due to the fire, with strong winds expected to reach speeds of 55 to 70 kilometers per hour in several areas on Wednesday. Bennet confirmed that these winds had already started to pick up and are forecasted to become more dangerous by evening.

“The winds pose a significant risk because they will help spread the fire across many areas, particularly those that we have not yet been able to reach,” Bennet warned.

As of now, approximately 90,000 homes in Los Angeles are without essential services, including electricity, as utilities have been cut off in an effort to prevent the spread of the flames. Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety precautions as the fire continues to threaten more areas.
