Naledi Aphiwe Myongwane has publicly apologized for an incident that occurred at Mthandeni’s Summer Experience on Saturday, January 5, at eMdletshe in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), which disrupted the highly anticipated event.
What was meant to be a celebratory occasion quickly turned into a chaotic situation, disappointing fans and creating tension during the performance.
In her apology, Naledi expressed sincere regret, acknowledging the disruption she caused:
“It was never my intention to cause any disturbance or disrespect, particularly to such a revered artist in the Maskandi community. I realize my actions were inconsiderate, and I deeply regret how I behaved on stage.”
She also emphasized her respect for the values of the community, expressing her commitment to reflect on her actions and to grow both as an artist and as a person moving forward.
Fresh from her collaboration with Chris Brown on the hit single “Shooter” and a memorable meeting with the superstar during his South Africa visit, Naledi was excited to perform her popular hits at the event.
However, a video circulating online shows Naledi and her team seemingly interrupting Khuzani “Gatsheni” Ndlovu, who was performing on stage at the time. The crowd, initially excited, became frustrated as they expected to see their favorite artist, resulting in a tense and chaotic situation.
Bottles and paper cups were thrown at Naledi, who appeared unaware of the growing tension. She continued her performance while Khuzani and his dancers quickly exited the stage. Eventually, Naledi was escorted offstage for her safety as the situation escalated.
In the aftermath, Khuzani addressed rumors circulating on social media about a supposed feud between him and Mthandeni, clarifying that there was no conflict:
“I don’t like what people are saying about Mthandeni and I not being on good terms. We are fine, and what happened on stage had nothing to do with him,” Khuzani stated.
Khuzani also suggested that the confusion might have stemmed from actions by Naledi’s management team: “I think Naledi’s management was trying to exert their influence, which unfortunately didn’t go as planned,” he said.
The Maskandi artist further expressed his willingness to meet with Naledi’s team to help her regain confidence in performing alongside Maskandi artists in the future: “I would love to meet with Naledi’s team so she can feel confident performing alongside Maskandi artists moving forward.”
Khuzani condemned the throwing of objects at performers, emphasizing the danger it posed to artists: “It’s dangerous and unacceptable to throw things on stage. Artists must be able to perform in a safe environment,” he concluded.
